Case Study
- Martori Farms
The Situation: Martori Farms, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of the nation’s largest growers and shippers of premium quality melons.
Martori Farms was seeking an alternative to wooden pallets for shipping its time-sensitive produce to its customers in the US. They wanted a contamination-free,
environmentally-friendly pallet that they could track and trace through the supply chain. The company also required a pallet that would work reliably on
its transfer system and that was easy for its employees to handle.
The Benefits: IGPS' plastic pallets eliminate the broken boards, wood splinters and protruding nails that litter warehouse floors and jam transfer equipment. Its pallets are especially well-suited for food products as they will not absorb bacteria or harbor contaminants. iGPS pallets weigh 30% less (25 lbs) than their wood counterparts and their structurally sound bottom transfers smoothly on conveyor systems. RFID tags embedded in each iGPS pallet enable companies to track and trace their assets throughout the supply chain.
The Results: The ability to manage produce from manufacture to final sale, reducing handling and warehousing time, while providing timely and accurate information is the key to margin preservation for Martori Farms. Because of its lighter weight, the iGPS pallet has enabled Martori Farms to load more of its products on each truck, thereby reducing freight cost per sell unit, and to eliminate conveyor system jamming.
