iGPS' Plastic Pallets are Safer and More Sustainable

  • iGPS takes the safety of our customers and consumers seriously so we engineered the safest pallet in the world from a food, fire, worker safety and environmental performance perspective.
  • iGPS’ pallet is certified under FM Approvals 4996 and UL 2335 (file no. R25482) through encapsulation of Deca-bromine in the pallet’s plastic resin.**
  • iGPS selected Deca-bromine as the fire-retardant in our pallets because it is the most widely used and safest fire-retardant available.  It is utilized in countless products in our homes and workplaces—carpets, drapes and insulation, wire and electrical cables used in computers and other electronics, as well as furniture and fabric coverings used in public places and in automobiles, airplanes and other public transport vehicles.
  • While over 1,000 tests over the course of many years have confirmed the safety of Deca-bromine, we nonetheless commissioned independent laboratories to confirm its safety and suitability for our pallets.  These tests showed conclusively that there is no detectable transfer of Deca-bromine to foods—or even to food packaging—when shipped on an iGPS pallet.
  • iGPS pallets are 30% lighter and require less fuel to transport and therefore reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • iGPS pallets are stronger and more durable than wooden alternatives and reduce product damage and operational disruptions.
  • iGPS plastic pallets do not absorb liquids, are impervious to infestation and are easy to clean.
  • Embedded radio frequency identification tags ensure a transparent supply chain with superior tracking capabilities.
  • iGPS pallets are 100% recyclable. If a pallet is broken, it will be molded into new ones, making its useful life indefinite.
  • For the first time, an independent Life Cycle Analysis has examined the environmental impact of three types of pallets commonly used today (pooled multi-use wood; single-use wood; and iGPS’ pooled all-plastic pallet).  The analysis found that—even with conservative assumptions—iGPS’ all-plastic pallet had significantly less environmental impact than the wood pallets tested.

** Our pallets received UL 2335 listing (file no. R25482) on July 20th, 2007 and FM Approvals 4996 listing on September 8, 2008 for pallets manufactured thereafter.
